Pyrford Neighbourhood Forum

Since 2013, the Pyrford Neighbourhood Forum has given residents a voice in influencing the way our village grows and develops. The Forum completed a Neighbourhood Plan in 2017, giving the local community a process for influencing planning decisions with the local Planning Authority.

The Forum is now involved in a wide range of initiatives in the community, including heritage conservation, protecting our natural environment and supporting local projects.

We aim to facilitate a spirit of community that empowers people to work together to protect and enhance the beautiful area in which we live.

Happy New Year from the Pyrford Neighbourhood Forum!

2025 has been a busy and productive year for us. We took part in five fairs and fetes, organised three litter picks, met regularly with Woking Borough Council’s planning teams and ran the popular Walk on the Wildside. Alongside these events, our ongoing work continued: reviewing planning applications, promoting care for our natural environment and supporting heritage conservation across Pyrford.

In January we began updating the Pyrford Neighbourhood Plan, a major piece of work that will help shape the future of our area. In December, we were formally re-designated as a Neighbourhood Forum, enabling us to continue representing Pyrford. We also requested a Community Governance Review, asking Woking Borough Council to consider the creation of a Parish Council for Pyrford.

Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be even busier. Work on the Neighbourhood Plan will continue throughout the year, the second phase of the Community Governance Review consultation will take place, and we look forward to organising more litter picks and another Walk on the Wildside.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and engaged with the Forum over the past year. We wish you all a very happy New Year and look forward to working with you in 2026 for the benefit of Pyrford.

The Rough – Pyrford Common

13th March 2025 By Geoff Geaves

Hidden on Pyrford Common is a rather grand house bearing the names of two famous residents. The house is known as the Rough and it was built in 1885 by Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke, a famous Liberal politician of the time with real prospects of leading the party in time.  In the same year he married Lady Emilia Francis Pattinson, a prominent trade unionist, feminist, and historian.  The marriage was something of a sensation as Dilke was named in a divorce case involving his brother's wife.  They retreated to Pyrford and lived there until Dilke's death in 1911.  Woking Borough recognise the … Read more » about The Rough – Pyrford Common
