Overview

ESSO PIPELINE PROPOSALS FOR PYRFORD

 1.  Background

ESSO operate an aviation fuel pipeline between their Fawley Refinery and their West London Terminal storage facility near Heathrow.  It was constructed in the 60s and 70s to carry heavy fuel oil and then converted to carry lighter aviation fuel.  This pipeline has reached the end of it’s economic life and must be replaced.

2.  The Project

The new pipeline is a nationally strategic project is being planned outside local development planning processes and will be run directly under the auspices of government’s Planning Inspectorate with the decision being taken by the Secretary of State.  Further details of the project can be found on the ESSO website at:

www.slpproject.co.uk

and an excellent summary of the ESSO information is available on the Residents Association website at:

https://the-residents.org/esso-pipeline-corridor-consultation-overview/

3.  Local Consultation

ESSO have considered a total of 17 possible corridors for the new pipeline and whittled these down to three as far as Pyrford is concerned.  Corridors M and Q use the same corridor through Pyrford.  Corridor J is a third option but passes well to the north of Pyrford following the route of the existing pipeline.  M and Q are distinguished by the way they negotiate Alice Holt Forest near Farnham.

Your views are invited on options M/Q and J in a consultation being run by ESSO.  This consultation started on 19th March and closes at 23:45 on 30th April 2018.  The Forum will oppose routes M/Q because it threatens the green spaces that are such an important part of the Neighbourhood Plan and because we believe many residents will want to comment in similar terms.  See Response Notes for further details of possible objections.

As usual numbers count, so if you have similar concerns you need to respond to this consultation.  We advise that you respond in one of three ways:

  1. By letter to: FREEPOST SLP PROJECT.  A preprinted envelope and stamp are required.  Make sure your letter includes full name, address and post code details.
  2. Online at https://www.slpproject.co.uk/have-your-say/ via the ‘Take part today’ button. NB ESSO recommend this method but you are required to register before you can get access to the online response form.
  3. By Email to info@slpproject.co.uk ensuring that full details of your name, address and post code are provided.

DON’T FORGET RESPONSES MUST BE RECEIVED BY

23:45 ON 30th APRIL 2018
