CONSERVATION AREA ASSESSMENTS
Right now the basic evidence gathering is done, or well underway, and we need to address the changes in our heritage and start formulating the recommendations to Woking Council about what we do about it.
In particular, Pyrford includes
two important Conservation Areas: one around St Nicholas Church and one around Aviary Road. These conservation areas have not been formally assessed for over 23 years and Conservation Area Assessment (CAA) is required for each to determine what changes have occurred for better and worse. The actual CAA is a determination of how buildings, spaces, landscape, greenery and views uniquely combine to define a heritage area of value.
The team will
lead the assessments needed but would like residents to participate. Special skills are not required as we will be following a model which is widely used and recommended for such exercises. What is important is that those participating know the area well and have a genuine interest in conserving Pyrford’s heritage.
Once the assessment is complete the conclusions will need to be drawn and the exercise documented in the form of a Supplementary Planning Document or SPD. This will then become a key reference document for WBC planners when they consider development requests within the area.
So, if you are interested in participating please register your interest with an email to info@pyrfordforum.org and we will be in touch.
Proposals have also been received for two additional conservation areas and we will also undertake CAAs for these areas too. One area will be around The Old House and the other has yet to be agreed locally.
Again, if you are interested, please let us know at info@pyrfordforum.org .
