Winter is upon us and the animals are now in full survival mode!
Look out for migrant visitors such as Redwings, Fieldfares, Thrushes & Blackbirds in your garden who will be looking for berries or fallen apples after flying here all the way from Iceland, Scandinavia & even Russia.
Migrant Teal and Pochard as well as various geese species may be present on lakes and rivers.
The last Kingfisher broods (up to 3 in a season) will now disperse to their on solitary territories until next year.
Hedgehogs are making “nests” to hibernate.
Things to do
- Put out food and water for birds. Nuts & seeds are always welcome and fruit like old apples & pears too. If you’ve got any apples that are going over or you’ve managed to store some in the garden shed why not put them out on the lawn.
- Take afternoon walks along the River Wey to see Barn Owls hunting on its adjacent wetland areas.
