Pyrford says YES to a Parish Council

Residents of Pyrford have voted in favour of creating a Parish Council. In Woking Borough Council’s (WBC’s) recent consultation 68% of respondents supported the proposal. A total of 446 responses were received, which is 11% of electors. Thank you to everyone who participated!

At the WBC’s Full Council meeting on 11 December, councillors reviewed the responses and approved the recommendation to create a Parish Council. The proposal is for

• A Parish Council called Pyrford Parish Council,

• covering the Pyrford Neighbourhood Area

• with 10 parish councillors

• and no wards.

Pyrford Christmas Lights Switch-on

Do join us at the switching on of the Pyrford Christmas lights on Friday 28 November at Marshall Parade. Festivities start at 6.30pm and the lights will be turned on at 7.00pm. Come and say hello to your Forum Committee!

What does a Parish Council do?

The question that’s come up most often as we’ve been delivering flyers about the Community Governance Review is: “What does a Parish Council do?”.

Briefly the answer is: “A Parish Council works to keep a village a great place to live. It protects the environment, delivers local services and represents the views of residents.” But, of course, there is much more to it than that. For a fuller answer see here.
