FOOTPATH 422 ABOUT TO OPEN

11th February 2024 by Geoff Geaves 3 Comments

SCC have informed the Forum that footpath 422, linking Pyrford Common to The Arbor, is about to be opened but it has been a seven year plus journey.

Carole Gale, a founding member of the Pyrford Forum had a vision to create “The Pyrford Loop” – a 10 kilometre walk inside the Pyrford Neighbourhood Area and this vision was included in the Pyrford Forum Plan approved in December 2016.  This section was  described as “a traditional footpath in use in the area, running from Pyrford Common to Coldharbour Rd, emerging at the back of the Arbor Centre building, which would, if formalised, improve pedestrian access and add amenity value”.  The then Footpath Officer of the Residents’ Association took up the case and submitted all the necessary paperwork to Surrey County Council (SCC) on 4th July 2016.

Following a meeting of the Woking Joint Committee a footpath order was made on 6 November 2019, by SCC. This needed to be confirmed but the landowner Burhill Estates objected  to the order. The next step was a public hearing which has not happened due to the pandemic. SCC have just informed us that the landowner has withdrawn its objection.  The Footpath Order will now be confirmed. But, given that the path is completely overgrown and has in parts become a wildlife habitat, SCC need to arrange clearance works before SCC can publish the confirmation order which formally confirms the path as a public right of way footpath.

No one should try to walk the path just yet. When this is possible, it will be advertised on the SCC website and on the Forum web site.

Cart Barn Pyrford Road

19th January 2024 by Geoff Geaves 2 Comments

In  November’s Heritage Newsletter, we referred to the Cart Barn adjacent to Lees Farm Cottages, Pyrford Road.
It is believed to have existed on the site since the 18th century and features on the 1841 Tithe map.
Although the building itself is not explicitly listed, it is within the curtilage of listed buildings and so has the protection of listed building legislation.
We were therefore concerned, this week, to see tiles being removed from the roof in what could have been the start of the removal of the building.

Thankfully, a senior planning enforcement officer from Woking Borough Council was able to visit the site the same day.
He confirmed that listed building consent would be required for any further work and will continue to monitor the situation.
The Pyrford Neighbourhood Forum works to protect our local environment, including its heritage and nature.

SHEPHERD’S MARKET – 12 November 10:30am to 2pm

8th November 2022 by Geoff Geaves Leave a Comment

The annual Shepherd’s Market is on Saturday 12th November 10:30am to 2pm at the Church of the Good Shepherd.   As the Forum is selling its 2023 Wildlife Calendar at the event, why not pop along, see us and take a look at the calendar.
To celebrate the variety of local wildlife found in Pyrford, the Forum, with the help of award-winning local photographer Mike Tibbotts, has produced a 2023 Wildlife calendar.  There are thirteen superb pictures and makes an ideal Christmas gift.  And it is available for only £12 by emailing info@pyrfordforum.org.

COOP LOCAL COMMUNITY FUND

8th November 2022 by Geoff Geaves 1 Comment

Pyrford Forum is delighted to have been selected as one of the local groups being supported by the COOP Local Community Fund.  The Forum is most grateful to Cllr Peter Graves who suggested applying and made the application on behalf of the Forum.

The Forum would like to convert the piece of community land between Coldharbour and Hacketts Lanes into a small park with fruit trees, bulbs, and shrubs, and maybe a fence or a hedge, seating and a plaque.
Woking Borough Council has already kindly agreed to plant a few trees during the coming planting season.

The original thought was to name it the Platinum Jubilee Garden, but since the Queens death the suggestion now is the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Memorial Garden.

Co-op members can support Pyrford Neighbourhood Forum  (Cause ID: 74562) as part of the Local Community Fund until 21 October 2023.  –  You need to sign into your account and select Pyrford Forum as your cause. Then for every £1 members spend on selected Co-op branded products and services, 1p will go directly to our cause but to collect rewards and contribute to our cause, you must swipe or scan your membership card when you shop.   If you are not a member, you can get a card from Pyrford Coop and join for £1:00 or click on the  membership link: https://membership.coop.co.uk/causes

PYRFORD COMMON – 2ND LITTER PICK

8th November 2022 by Geoff Geaves Leave a Comment

If you were out on Pyrford Common on Sunday, the 9th of October, you might have seen a number of Pyrford Neighbourhood Forum members masquerading as Woking Council employees.

Many residents from all across the borough visit the rural areas of Pyrford at the weekend and this was all part of the Forum’s mission to care for the character of the area, look after their open spaces and continue to make them enjoyable recreational spaces.  The clean-up was done with the permission of Horsell Common Preservation Society, and Woking Council kindly supplied the high-viz jackets, litter pickers and black sacks for the rubbish.

There was a good turnout of local residents to collect the usual haul of litter, bottles, and cans from the Common and the council recreational space and an unexpected bonus was seeing the remarkable number of fungi growing across the whole area.
